Trauma Informed Care

Blissful Roots recognizes that traumatic experiences can terrify, overwhelm, and violate the individual. Trauma informed care is committed to not repeating these experiences, and in any way possible, to restore a sense of safety, power, choice, and self-worth. Blissful Roots embraces the following 6 core principles of Trauma Informed Care (SAMHSA’s Concept of Trauma, 2014).

-
Safety – physically and psychologically safe.
-
Trustworthiness and transparency – Honesty, transparency, and respect help us build and maintain a healthy foundation in relationships
-
Peer support and mutual self-help – building trust, establishing safety, empowerment, and universality. You are not in this alone.
-
Collaboration and mutuality – Healing happens in relationships and in the meaningful sharing of power and decision-making.
-
Empowerment voice, and choice – Every individual has a voice and choice and we recognize that every person’s experience is unique.
-
Cultural, historical, and gender issues – The organization actively moves past cultural stereotypes and biases , offers culturally responsive services, leverages the healing value of traditional cultural connections, and recognizes and addresses historical trauma.
